Meghan Hildebrand
Landscape, local history and folklore are the foundations for Meghan’s current work. She creates open-ended narratives that invite the viewer to bring their own perspective and explore a world with few boundaries. Repetitive symbols appear as visual pattern and as part of a unique lexicon that connects her present work to her past work.
Originally from Whitehorse, Yukon, Meghan chose Powell River as a place to base her art practice in 2004. Meghan studied art at the Kootenay School of the Arts and at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Upon graduation in 2001, she began a full-time painting practice. In that time Meghan has had over 40 solo exhibitions including a 10-year retrospective at the Yukon Arts Centre, at which time her work was acquired for the Yukon Government’s Permanent Collection. In 2018 Meghan’s work was shown at Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art and at Skye Gallery in Aspen Colorado. Meghan Hildebrand is represented by Madrona Gallery in Victoria and Mayberry Fine Art in Winnipeg and Toronto.
